How to Buy the Best Electric Shaver
Shaving used to be a lot more of a chore than it is today. Can
you imagine actually having to mix your face soap mixture each morning just before sharpening your straight razor.
Imagine, using something more like a weapon to shave your face. You had better have a VERY steady hand if you are planning on using a straight razor to shave your face. There is not an easier way to lose a nose or part of an ear lope.
Next came safety razors, a slight improvement but how many finger tips were sliced open trying to change out razor blades on your new ‘safety razor’?

Then, the invention of the century, disposable razors. They were and are a huge step forward and much safer. That is until you are rushing a little one morning and find a way to slice your face open by accident. Then you accidentally go to work with that little piece of toilet paper stuck to your face.
…and then… came the savior of all men’s faces. The electric shaver. When we wrote our reviews of the best electric shavers we learned a lot ourselves. There are more options than you would think when it comes to the best rechargeable electric shavers. First and foremost, you have to get past the foil versus rotary aspect. This is one of the most obvious differences in the best electric shavers. But, there are more.
So, let’s talk about some of the differences when it comes to
buying the best electric razor.
We will start with the head type. You have two primary choices when it comes to an electric razor. Foil or Rotary.
A foil head contains oscillating blades (they go back and forth). Very similar to scissors or hedge clippers depending on how thick your beard is. A foil electric razor is rectangular, kind of like a disposable or safety razor that are probably used to. A foil electric razor is normally more noisy that rotary razor and can it can be hard to get that hair right under your nose. You use a foil head more like a standard safety razor, going back and forth or left and right.
A rotary electric shaver typically has three discs used to shave your face. These three discs have razors that spin around really quick to cut your beard. Sort of like the way a weed eater works but much safer!
Probably the biggest advantage to a rotary electric shaver is that they tend to contour to your face better than a foil headed shaver.
A foil head will usually be a smoother and closer shave but a rotary can get into more places, is quieter and easier to use.
Another common distinction between electric shavers is the wet and dry option.
Before, you get confused, a wet shaver does not just mean that you can used the electric shaver in the shower (electricity …shower…sounds weird right?) it also means you can use shaving cream with it.
Now, we know the whole point in buying the best rated electric razor is so you don’t have to use shaving cream and that is true. However, using shaving cream can be advantageous if you have sensitive skin. Dry shaving with even a top rated electric shaver can cause irritation.
It is also advantageous to be able to shave in the shower. Think of everything you can get accomplished if you can shave while you are still in the shower.
However, please note that you never get into the shower with a shaver that is plugged in. These electric shavers are always rechargeable. Safety first.
The only disadvantage we see to the wet option in an electric shaver is that they tend to cost a little more. This is mostly a price versus convenience comparison for you.
Do you want a corded or a rechargeable electric shaver? Obviously, if it is a wet shaver it will be rechargeable. However, if you do not plan on using it in the shower and price is a big factor for you then you can go with a corded top rated electric shaver. They work the same as a rechargeable shaver but tend to be cheaper and a little lighter since there is no battery.
Easy cleaning is a huge advantage. Cleaning is much easier with the wet option because you can just rinse it under the faucet. Otherwise, look for a shaver that has easy access to the cutting heads so you can clean them without too much difficulty. Most of the best rated electric shavers are relatively easy to clean but you should keep that in mind while choosing.
Do you want more attachments? Many electric shavers come with various attachments If you have a goatee or side burns that you need to trim from time to time then you may need to look for extra attachments. You need to decide what you need your shaver to do, then if you need certain attachments then look for those.
Price is another important factor but it should not be the driving factor in your choice. After all it does not good to get the best cheap electric razor that does not perform like you need it to. You need to find the shaver that has the options you need at the right price.
One way to do that is to start in the price range you are wanting to spend and then narrow down the ones with the features you want. After that, read the reviews. User reviews can be a hugely valuable way to find the top rated electric shaver within the price range you are looking for.
