We all breathe and I must assume that we all want to breathe clean air which is why we took the time to find out what are the highest rated air purifiers on the market.

During our reviews of the highest rated air purifiers we came across a number of good options in a variety of price ranges. We also found that many of the highest rated air purifiers had a variety of features to meet many different needs. One thing you need to determine is what you want the air purifier to do. If a member of your family has asthma you need to purchase the air purifier that removes the most particles from the air. You need REALLY clean air, not sort of clean air.

Another thing to consider when looking at our highest rated air purifiers is if you have pets. Pets produce a larger number of allergens than a non-pet home. Just like with asthma, you need better filters and will probably have to change or clean the filters more often.

What does air purifier do? Simply put they remove contaminants from the air in the room. May are marketed as being beneficial to allergy suffers and removing smoke from the air if someone in your family smokes.

How do air purifiers work? There are a number of different techniques an air purifier can use to remove contaminates from the air.

Using a filter is one of the common methods used by our highest rated air purifiers. An air purifier using a filter simply forces air through a filter and the filter is responsible for capturing the particles as they move through the filter. An ionizer purifier uses charged electrical surfaces to generate electrically charged air or gas ions. At one time ionizer purifiers were the most popular of the air purifiers. They are still popular but there are other options in the highest rated air purifiers.

An ozone generate was sometimes sold as whole house air cleaners. Ozone generators produce a significant amount of ozone. However, the only safe use of an ozone generator is in an unoccupied room. These are popular with restoration contractors to remove smoke after a fire, musty smells after flooding and the stench of decaying flesh that cannot be removed by bleach or anything else.

The highest rated air purifiers are great inventions and obviously highly recommend but they are not the answer to every air quality problem. There are a number of myths concerning air purifiers.

One myth is that if you have a top rated air purifier then your allergy problems are over. Yes, a top quality air purifier will help but they are not a magic bullet to your allergy problems. Contaminates like pollen are heavy and fall to the floor before the air purifier can remove them. If you want to really help with your allergies a highest rated air purifier is a tool in your toolbox, not your ONLY tool.

Yes, you will still have to dust if you have an air purifier. Unless you set your house up like a clean room in a micro-chip processing facility you will still have dust. Even if you have one of your highest rated air purifiers in every room you will still have dust to deal with.

You will not have an odorless house just because you bought a top rated air purifier. An air purifier will help with odors but you will still have to keep your house clean and take out the garbage. Again, just because we are giving you the highest rated air purifiers does not mean you can stop keeping your house clean and expect miracles.

Just because your top rated air purifier says HEPA does not mean that it will remove everything in your air. Even a highest rated air purifier with a HEPA filter varies in size and construction. Obviously, we tried to find the ones that functioned the best but nothing is perfect. At least not in a reasonable price range. It should also be noted that a HEPA filter does not remove odors. To remove odors you will need a good amount of carbon in a separate filter.

Speed does make a difference in the function of an air purifier. Lower speeds are quieter but they move a smaller volume of air through the air purifier. If you want to remove the most contaminates the you are going to have to run your top rated air purifier at a higher speed in order to increase the overall volume of air filtered.

Many air purifier tout their ability to removed bacteria and viruses. Those ultra violet and other types with similar functionality might remove some bacteria and viruses. The problem is that the bacteria and viruses do not stay in front of the ultra violet light long enough to effective neutralize them.
