There are a number of different types of top rated outdoor speakers you can choose. What features do our best outdoor speakers have?

Wireless is a huge plus. No one wants to run a lot of wires all over their backyard and into their house.
If it is a permanent outdoor speaker it must be a waterproof outdoor speaker. No one wants to watch their outdoor speaker ‘melt’ in the rain.
To be a top outdoor speaker system it must have the highest quality stereo sound. You would expect nothing else from a top rated outdoor speaker system and we wouldn’t either. Some speakers sound good at lower volume levels but their performance degrades as you raise the volume.
How loud you want your outdoor speaker to be depends a lot on the wattage. A 2 watt speaker might go up to 93 decibels. A 1024 watt speaker might go up to 120 decibels. That is an oversimplification. Remember playing music too loud and damage your hearing, we just wanted to give you an idea about what to expect.
Shape can determine the area the speaker releases sound. A standard square speaker will typically just play sound directly in front of the speaker. A round outdoor speaker system might play sound in multiple directions. If you are putting together an outdoor speaker system where you plan on sitting in a central area, having all the speakers face that area gives you good sound quality without having as much sound escaping toward your neighbors. Not that they cannot hear it, just that you are not specifically targeting their direction. Again, if you invite them to your party, no worries.

The Atrium series outdoor speaker system is a upgrades system as compared to the Dual Electronics system above. This outdoor speaker gives a higher quality sound to fill a large area AND it is built to military specifications for outdoor use. It is a great buy for the quality!

This is a great outdoor speaker system from a top manufacturer, Yamaha. We like the sound quality of these speakers a lot and think you will also. However, they are not they are not as durable as the Polk Audio above.

Yamaha’s compact NS-AW150W bookshelf speakers provide an affordable way to enjoy your music or television programming on a deck or under a porch. You can bring them in during the cold months and set them up indoors, too: their high build quality and good sound lend them equally well to two-channel indoor listening.

The speakers, which are sold as a pair, each use a 5-inch high-compliance, polypropylene, mica-filled woofer and .5-inch PEI dome tweeter. The drivers are optimized for high rigidity but low mass, giving them reasonably high sensitivity (80 dB with 2.83V at 1 meter), another way of saying modest amplifiers won’t have much trouble driving them. Speaker designers are faced with more challenges when designing an outdoor speaker. Mainly because they are expected to deliver the equivalent sound quality, while at the same time making the speakers resistant to all that Mother Nature can throw at them.   I agree. It is usually better to invest a few more dollars on an outside speaker in order to get one that lasts and still gives you the sound quality you want.
