you go to the dentist, do they brush your teeth using a manual method or do they use an automated toothbrush. I know, theirs isn’t electric but you get the point. Or the brush as the case may be.

Today many adults use electric toothbrushes because they are easy to use and every efficient in keep your teeth clean. They are especially useful to adults with arthritis or other finger or arm dexterity problems.
There are many options out there, which electric toothbrush head is the best? Most dental professionals
believe that a round rotating head electric toothbrush that rotates in one direction and then another is the best at keeping your teeth clean. This is a very similar action to the toothbrush used by dental professionals. However, there are other studies that say sonic electric toothbrushes are very effective and there is something to be said about an electric toothbrush with a more standard head that moves side to side.
Since there are a number of similar studies when it comes to the best electric toothbrush I prefer to look at what a dentist uses and lean that direction. I also like the sonic electric toothbrush option. Maybe it is just me but it seems like they do more when they are in my mouth.

- Speed is important in most things, right. The speed of the electric toothbrush can determine how fast and well it cleans
- Head shape. As previously stated there is some debate on which head shape is best. I
prefer the round head mainly because it is what my dentist uses. However, there is no conclusive evidence that other shaped heads are not also very effective. - Power source. Do you want a rechargeable electric toothbrush which is much more convenient or one that has to remain plugged in? I prefer the rechargeable electric toothbrush not just because of the convenience (I can walk around) but also because I do not really like the idea of having something plugged into the wall in my mouth. Maybe it’s just me?
- The cleaning method. Basically you have rotating, rotating/oscillating, counter oscillating, dual head and vibrating to choose from. All of these work well but I personally prefer either the rotating/oscillating or the counter oscillating.
- Different modes. Some top rated electric toothbrushes have different mode settings like whitening, deep cleaning, massage or sensitive teeth modes. Having different modes is a plus but to me it is not an overriding issue when I am searching for the best electric toothbrush. These are just bells and whistles.
- Brushing timer. Just another perk. It lets you know how long you have been brushing. Great for kids but I have a routine that I follow and it takes as long as it takes. I see no reason to make my electric toothbrush into an alarm clock. But, if you want a timer go for it. It is your mouth and electric toothbrush.
- Pressure sensor. This can be a plus if you have a habit of brushing too hard. Brushing too hard on your teeth can make them sensitive and irritate your gums. Like just about anything in life, too much of a good thing CAN be bad for you. Be careful not to press to hard when brushing.
- You can get a good quality electric toothbrush at a reasonable price. If you want all the features and bells and whistles then you will probably pay a little more for them. However, good oral hygiene is much cheaper than bad dentist visits even if you purchase the most expensive electric toothbrush on the market.
Using an electric toothbrush can be a big help to your dental health. In our lives we are always looking for ways to make things easier and letting the toothbrush do the work certainly makes things easier.
