Robotic vacuum cleaners have been a hot product for a little while now. We wanted to write an article about the best rated robotic vacuum cleaners we could find.

A robotic vacuum cleaner or what is often called a robovac is an autonomous (automatic) vacuum cleaning device. These devices have come a long way since their inception and are capable of many different functions now. The original robot vacuum cleaner was not exactly automatic, it had a remote control which required human interaction. Later motels of robotic vacuum cleaners included a self drive mode which eventually became a more autonomous unit capable of tracking its location and surroundings. These are the best robotic vacuum cleaners we want to talk about today.

As we were reviewing the top robotic vacuums we wanted to figure out what features were important. We made a short list of what features we felt consumers would want in anything we considered a top robotic vacuum.

1. It is ok to buy a cutting edge product but no one really wants bleeding edge product. What we mean by that is we want something that works not something that the manufacturer is still trying to figure out. We want a product that has a proven track record with the reviews to prove it.
2. Battery life. You need at least an hour. Might be hard to get more so set your sights there. Most things are better if they last longer, right?
3. How big is the cleaning area? This is important mainly because of battery life but the units ability to navigate can also be affected by this.
4. Remote control. Specifically we like products that allow control or programing from a smart device like a phone or tablet. It makes programing much easier and can also be fun to take direct control of the robotic vacuum and race around your house. Fun to chase pets with especially. If you want to splurge on more than one you can even set up you own little race way. If you do, be sure to take pictures and post to YouTube, you might have a viral hit … or not.
5. Auto scheduling. This is great because it allows your robot vacuum to clean while you are away. This set and forget feature is a real plus unless you just like watching it move around your house, which some people do. Hey, there is nothing wrong with drinking a beer and getting lost in thought while blankly starring at your little robotic vacuum cleaner move around the house. We will not judge you. Seems more entertaining than watching golf anyway.
6. Types of surfaces it cleans. We want a robot vacuum cleaner that will clean virtually any surface. From hardwood floors (without scratching them) to pile carpet. We did find that it was difficult to find a product that would do both at the same time without any adjustments, so just being able to adjust would be a plus.
7. Speed Control. Not a big factor to us but if you want a cleaning done quickly it might be for you. We looked at it but did not weigh overly heavy in our reviews.
8. More expensive does not necessarily mean better. Of course don’t expect a top rated robot vacuum that costs $20.00 to actually work. In fact, if someone called that a top rated robot vacuum cleaner the are obviously delusional. We are just saying that there are many more modestly priced robotic vacuums that perform as well as or better than some of the top line models. This is especially true of there are certain functions that you really do not need. After all who needs a robot vacuum cleaner with voice conferencing? That might be cool though now that I think about it.
9. They fit into tight spaces. If properly programs they can be a back saver when it comes to getting to hard to reach places under tables or other furniture.

Why do you need a top rated robot vacuum cleaner you ask?

1. Time saver. Let’s face it most of us are pretty busy and some of us are just lazy so having a robotic vacuum cleaner can save us a lot of time that we could be using doing something more important like updating our Facebook page.
